WARNING: Summer is coming to an end.

I hope you each have enjoyed your summers. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine. I went on a mission trip to DC and got to visit my family in NY for a week and a half. I'm going to soak up as much as possible these last few days before we go back.

Remember, regardless of when you have English next year, you are responsible for turning in your summer reading project the first day of 9th grade. If you need help, the book mobile comes around this week and next. Also, the library at school is still open.

Test Tips

Tomorrow starts the dreaded week of EOGs...

There are a few things we can do to make life slightly more enjoyable on these days:
  1. Eat breakfast
  2. Get a decent night sleep
  3. Bring a water bottle
  4. Practice your math formulas.
  5. Relax! It's just a test.
Be sure you are ready to focus for the tests.  I know that all of you are capable of passing and doing well.

Any movie requests for the week?

Band Whoop Whooooop!

CMS Band rocks!!

So proud of all the band students that I teach.

Summer Reading Project

We're getting down to the end of the year; only 21 more days of school!! (*insert happy dance here*)

With the end of the school year and the start of high school come some added responsibilities.  We've been going over the "blue book" that details the summer reading project required of Jordan Matthews HS freshmen this year.  I must say there are some changes to the book that we all are grateful for:
  • You can request a title of your choice.  Just be sure to fill out the form on the back (in proper English!), sign it, get your parent to sign it, then give it to me and if I am okay with it Mrs. Fowler and I will sign it.
  • A list of authors you can choose from.  How wonderful to know you are no longer limited to pre-selected titles!
  • Q&A section (Remember to add my email address: lindsaygarvey@chatham.k12.nc.us to the contact info. just in case.)
I know you guys can handle this.  We have been working on so many things this year that encourage higher-level thinking and deeper thinking.  You will have no problem creating awesome projects.

Remember to take your time, put forth your best effort, and above all, pace yourself.  No one wants to read an entire book and complete this project the week before going to JM.

EOG Centers

Take it upon yourself to do whatever you can to prepare for the EOGs. Remember, there are centers in the classroom that you can work on.

Let the games begin!

We are currently in the midst of the EOG games in our classroom!! Teams are working together to learn as much as possible before the EOG and beat the other teams while doing it! Each class will have a winning team and there will be one overall winning team.

Today was our first challenge: plot. Friday we reviewed plot and sequence. Today, teams read a book together and completed a plot structure map.

EOG Prep

We are back from spring break and we have 20 days until the EOG tests begin!  (Only 39 days left of school! *insert dance here*)

I'm putting some links on here that you can get access to from home to help you to study, not only for the LA EOG, but also for the math and science.  Remember, even doing 7th grade stuff will help.  It's important to study, sleep, eat a good breakfast, and dress in layers on test day!

The Day Has Finally Come

Our visitors arrived!! Mayor Charles Johnson and Town Commissioner Mike Constantino visited our class today to listen to our persuasive letters.

Some awesome things happened!! 1. Mike Constantino was attending a meeting tonight to initiate a soccer field/recreational program. He offered to take our letters with him to the meeting! 2. Mayor Johnson shared that our town is getting a greenway (another thing our students had written about) 3. The students were praise for their professional attire and behavior. We blew them out of the water!!

You guys rock! This year will go down in the history books for me; I hope it does for each of you as well.
